Technology use AI and Mental Health: Digital Wellness in the Modern Age
Ryan S Patel DO, FAPA, The Ohio State University

In May 2023, the US Surgeon general issued an advisory on social media and Youth mental health calling light on negative impact of social media on youth mental health. Research also shows negative mental health impact from unhealthy use of other media and technology among young adults. This program will discuss research on mental health impact of unhealthy technology use, strategies to use technology in healthy ways, and a unique tool Dr. Patel developed called a personal media plan to help students create a plan to use technology in ways that support their mental health. If available, findings from our national study on current state, strength and gaps of current campus based digital wellness programs. Students are also increasingly using Artificial intelligence for emotional support and mental health. Risks vs potential benefits and constructive guidance will be discussed so that students can make informed decisions.

Celebrating Champions: Developing a Mental Health Champion Certificate Program
Ashley Hartman, MPH, MCHES, OCPC, Bowling Green State University

Mental Health is a campus-wide problem requiring a campus-wide solution. As mental health needs grow on campuses, innovative strategies are needed to prepare all campus members -faculty, staff, and students-to identify and respond to mental health challenges. This session will discuss the development of the Mental Health Champion Certificate program at Bowling Green State University. This program includes evidence-based and evidence-informed/homegrown programming to promote the ability to identify and refer students in mental health distress. During the training, participants will have time to reflect on their current mental health training initiatives and collaborate with other attendees on developing ideas to expand or enhance their current efforts.

Take care,
Chris
