Breakout Session: Going All In: Incorporating Collegiate Problem Gambling Initiatives into Our Continuum of Services
The explosion of online sports betting has led to an increase in problematic gambling behavior on campus. College students who engage in these behaviors often have co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns. With easy access to gambling, it is critical that campuses understand the potential risks and are prepared to support students in need of help. The presenters will explore the current gambling landscape, discuss the relationship between problem gambling and other behavioral health concerns, the impact problem gambling has on student athletes, and identify strategies and resources to integrate problem gambling work into existing efforts on campus.
Breakout Session: Navigating Engagement: Faculty Pursuits for Students' Success
As educational institutions increasingly recognize the critical role of well-being, the integration of evidence-based wellness programs can foster a more positive, productive, and engaged community. In the classroom, student well-being is closely tied to academic achievement and overall learning outcomes. Research shows that students who are physically and mentally well are more likely to engage in learning, perform better academically, and retain information effectively. By understanding the key components of wellness, participants will explore the different dimensions of wellness, physical, mental, emotional, and social, and understand how each contributes to creating a healthy, supportive learning environment for both students and faculty. Participants will also learn how to integrate wellness check-in and reflective practices within their course to assess and improve the well-being of both students and faculty, fostering an ongoing dialogue about wellness in the classroom. This session aims to guide participants in understanding, implementing, and evaluating wellness initiatives in the educational context, promoting a holistic approach to teaching and learning. This session focuses on the integration of wellness initiatives in educational settings, specifically within the classroom. It emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach to teaching and learning, with a focus on student well-being as a key factor in academic success.
