Dear Amy,

Please join us for The Healthy Minds Network's upcoming webinar, Harnessing Social Media: Entering the world of young people to promote wellness and resilience. The webinar will take place on Monday, December 9, 3-4pm (ET) and Wednesday, December 11, 12-1pm (ET) (content the same at both sessions). The webinar is intended to help audience members increase their understanding of how young people use social media and how it can be used as a tool to improve student wellness.

The webinar is free of charge and requires no special software. RSVP by emailing us at healthyminds@umich.edumailto:healthyminds@umich.edu or using the contact formhttp://healthymindsnetwork.org/contact on our website, healthymindsnetwork.orghttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6967544/healthymindsnetwork.org. In your RSVP message, please include the following information:

  • Your name and email address
  • Your intended date of participation (December 9 or 11)
  • Questions/comments related to social media and mental health for our panelists to address (optional)

The webinar will feature two panelists, Dr. Cliff Lampe and Blake Wagner III:

[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6967544/CL.png]    Dr. Cliff Lampe is a social media expert and associate professor in the School of Information at the University of Michigan. He researches the social and technical structures of large-scale technology mediated communication, working with sites like Facebook, Wikipedia, and Microsoft. He has also been involved in the creation of multiple social media and online community projects, usually designed to enable collective action.
[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6967544/BW.png]    Blake Wagner III is the creative director of the Healthy Minds Network's inkblots project. He has been active in designing student outreach programs and motivational speaking. The inkblots ("Tiny shifts can lead to big changes") short film series grew out of his passion to merge often esoteric yet helpful evidence-based coping skills with a hip and digestible 2-to-4 minute film format.

During the first half of the webinar, Dr. Lampe will present an overview of trends and uses of social media in adolescent and young adult populations. In the second half of the webinar, Blake Wagner III and Rebecca Lindsay will present new mental health interventions that are designed to leverage social media: a video-based intervention inkblotshttp://healthymindsnetwork.org/inkblots, and a peer-to-peer based life skills and stress management social media platform (tinyshifts). Both projects are being developed at University of Michigan and share a common goal: to help spur a cultural shift in how mental and emotional health is perceived and managed among young adult populations.

You can view a sample of the inkblots videos at inkblots.comhttp://www.inkblots.com/.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming webinar! Please invite your colleagues and feel free to forward this message to anyone who may be interested in joining us. Thank you for being an important part of The Healthy Minds Network.

All the best,

Blake Wagner III
