Good afternoon and Happy Friday stakeholders,

Please see below for a few upcoming events that you don't want to miss!

2023 Virtual Cannabis Symposium

The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery (HECAOD) is looking forward to hosting their second Virtual Cannabis Symposium on Thursday, December 7th from 11:00am-4:30pm EST. This day-long event will feature sessions providing an overview of cannabis products on the market with a focus on high-THC products, examples of interventions currently being used on college campuses, and a panel discussion around cannabis policy and implications for institutions of higher education. Additionally, the day will offer opportunities for conversation through roundtable discussions. The full agendahttps://hecaod.osu.edu/2023-cannabis-symposium/ is available on HECAOD's website. All sessions will be recorded and available after the symposium. It has been approved for 3.5 contact hours for Certified Health Education Specialists. Continuing education hours are pending for live sessions for Ohio social workers & Ohio prevention specialists. Those outside of Ohio are encouraged to check with your state for reciprocity. Supporting College Students: A Focus on Substance Use Policy Violators and Mandated Interventions

The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery (HECAOD) will also be hosting the upcoming webinar, Supporting College Students: A Focus on Substance Use Policy Violators and Mandated Interventions on November 29, 2023, from 3:30pm-4:30pm EST. Every year, college campuses report substance use policy violations as the most frequent reason students receive disciplinary referrals and, thus, are mandated to programming. Studies show that students who have been found in violation of their institution's substance use policies often report heavier use of alcohol and drugs and experience more complications from it, compared to their non-mandated peers. This presentation includes information on substance use behaviors and consequences of college student policy violators, findings from latest research, and implications to help address this issue in the future.
