Dear Valued Partners and Stakeholders:
In 2008, the United States House of Representatives designated July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Monthhttps://c212.net/c/link/?t=0&l=en&o=2844351-1&h=3676147093&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nami.org%2FGet-Involved%2FAwareness-Events%2FMinority-Mental-Health-Awareness-Month%2FLearn-About-Minority-Mental-Health-Month&a=Bebe+Moore+Campbell+National+Minority+Mental+Health+Awareness+Month. This year, many organizations are calling this observance Blacks, Indigenous People and People of Color (BIPOC) Mental Health Awareness Month, believing that this designation honors and distinguishes the experiences of Blacks, indigenous people and people of Color more appropriately. The Northeast Ohio Medical University Department of Psychiatry Coordinating Centers of Excellence - the Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center, Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence and the Ohio Program for Campus Safety & Mental Health - would like to share BIPOC mental health information and resourceshttps://www.neomed.edu/medicine/psychiatry/centers/bipoc-mental-health-resources/ with our community-based constituents. This information will remain on our website as a resource beyond BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. Please bookmark this page:

The coordinating centers of excellence believe that culture and identity are essential components of conversations about mental health care, and that a person's racial, ethnic, or cultural identity can shape and exacerbate mental health challenges and make accessing treatment more difficult. Racism is a public health crisis, and we stand with all the families, friends and communities who have lost loved ones and experienced trauma.
Sincerely,
